Summary
When it comes to surfing in Central America, most travelers flock to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, or Mexico, leaving El Salvador as a true hidden gem. With uncrowded right-hand point breaks, affordable prices, and warm water year-round, El Salvador is quickly becoming a top surf destination for those in the know.
The country’s coastline is lined with world-class waves, particularly around El Tunco, La Libertad, and El Zonte, the heart of El Salvador’s surf scene. Here, you’ll find plenty of surf camps, beach bars, restaurants, and affordable accommodations where you can meet surfers from around the world.
El Salvador is also known for its friendly locals and welcoming surf community. Whether you’re looking for surf lessons, surfboard rentals, or a guided trip to secret spots, the local surf shops and surf schools have you covered.
While El Salvador still carries a reputation for safety concerns, the surf towns have become much safer in recent years. With basic precautions, especially at night, travelers generally enjoy a safe and unforgettable surf experience.
