Surfing Guide to Mar del Plata, Argentina

Summary

Mar del Plata is Argentina’s most popular coastal destination and a buzzing hub for both tourists and surfers. Located about 400 km south of Buenos Aires, it’s often called the country’s surf capital. Despite being one of Argentina’s busiest cities, the surf lineups remain relatively mellow, even in peak summer, because surfing isn’t as mainstream here as in places like Brazil.

The surf itself is often small and wind-affected, but with a little patience, you can score good sessions, especially in the winter months. If you’re chasing waves on Argentina’s Atlantic coast, Mar del Plata is your best bet.

On flat days, the city offers plenty to do: restaurants, nightlife, beaches, casinos, museums, and more.
