<h2><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong><a id="summary"></a>Summary</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Amongst having great waves and surf spots, Java is also the most populated Indonesian island and home to the country&#8217;s capital city, Jakarta. Java is a great destination for surfing enthusiasts, with its abundance of surf breaks, beautiful scenery, and rich Indonesian culture.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/bali-indonesia-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Also read : Surfing Guide to Bali, Indonesia</strong></span></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Surfing conditions in Java are ideal for surfers of all levels. The island is exposed to the Indian Ocean, which generates some of the world&#8217;s most consistent swells. While some of the best surf spots in Java, such as G-Land, are definitely more suitable for experienced surfers, some other waves like Batu Karas are perfect for beginners. The southern coast of Java, which is more exposed to the Indian Ocean swell remains the best place to find great waves.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><a id="when-to-go"></a>When to surf Java</span></strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">The best time of the year to surf in Java, Indonesia is from May to October, which is the dry season. During this time, swells are consistent and the winds are mostly offshore, creating ideal surfing conditions. However, surfers can still find good waves during the wet season from November to April, although conditions are unpredictable and waves are less consistent.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">The G-Land area remains very secluded but there are some nice Airbnb&#8217;s in the area which are very close to the surf spot.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong>Summary</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Located just a couple hours south of Brisbane and an hour north of <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/2021/05/17/10-best-places-to-go-on-a-surf-camp/" data-wpel-link="internal">Byron Bay</a></strong>, the Gold Coast of Australia is one of the world&#8217;s most popular surfing hub, having brought up some of the best surfers of all time in Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson. </span><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The Gold Coast has several high-quality surf spots like Duranbah Beach, Snapper Rocks and Kirra which are all very consistent throughout the year.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">In the early 2000&#8217;s, the city council and surfing community decided to change the surfing scenery on the Gold Coast by pouring huge amount of sand near Snapper Rocks, in Coolangatta. </span><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Since then, Superbank is a world-class wave that stretches all the way from Snapper Rocks to Kirra, making it Australia&#8217;s longest wave.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>When to go</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">The best time to surf the Gold Coast of Australia is from February to April which happens to be during cyclone season bringing decent ground swells on the coast. <p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Snapper Rocks is the first point break at the very end of Rainbow Bay and is one of Australia&#8217;s most iconic surf spot. Every year, the World Surf League makes it one of its stop for the Championship Tour allowing the best surfers to compete at this venue. Snapper Rocks is a right-hander that breaks over superbank, a man made sand bar. This surf spot is extremely consistent and works on pretty much any easterly swell. On an epic day, the point break connects all the way down to Kirra, several hundred meters up the coast.</span></p>

<h2></h2>
<h2><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Summary</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Indonesia is now well established as one of the world&#8217;s best surfing destinations. With the huge increase in popularity for islands like <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/bali-indonesia-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">Bali</a></strong>, Java and <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/mentawai-islands-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">West Sumatra</a></strong> over the last decades, Indonesia&#8217;s surf spots are now for the most part, way overcrowded.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">However, there are still a few hidden gems in Indonesia for people willing to venture themselves off the beaten paths. Sumba is an islands just south-east of <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/sumbawa-indonesia-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">Sumbawa</a></strong>. Its remote location kept it well off the surfers radar for a long time but it is now slowly getting the recognition it deserves.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Sumba has incredible surf, just like the rest of the Indonesian islands, but with only a slight fraction of the crowds you will find on <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/bali-indonesia-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">Bali</a></strong> or <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/lombok-indonesia-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">Lombok</a></strong>, for example. </span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">While the surf in Sumba is perfect and uncrowded, the downside is a bit of a lack of tourism and healthcare infrastructure. If something bad happens, you are a couple ferries away from the nearest hospital.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Therefore, a surf trip to Sumba requires good preparation and the reward is simply astonishing.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">The best time to surf Sumba, Indonesia is from April to October, which is when swells are more consistent in the Indian Ocean. This also happens to be the dry season in Indonesia.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">As most surf spots are located on the Sumba&#8217;s south side, the best place to base yourself is probably near Nihiwatu Beach.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">A bit of a controversial spot as you need to stay at Nihiwatu Resort to have access to this wave. However, it is a great left. One of the best waves in Sumba.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">There are a couple airports in Sumba with domestic flights to Bali which remains the best way to get to Sumba. You can also catch a ferry from Sumbawa or Flores, the two nearest islands.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Safety/things to know</span></strong></span></h2>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Sumba is fairly underdeveloped and lacks some good healthcare infrastructure. Surfers should bring good first aid kits and have a decent travel insurance.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Malaria is very common in Sumba, make sure to take all precautions including insect repellant and malaria tablets.</span></li>

<li><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Byron Bay is a very safe surfing destination. Sharks are present, like pretty much anywhere in Australia but they are not much of an issue with regular aerial patrol.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">Summer can get very crowded both in the water and around town.</span><br />

<h2><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong><a id="summary"></a>Summary</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">An absolute diving and whale-watching paradise, the Kingdom of Tonga is also a good option for an off-the-beaten-track surfing destination.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Located just south of Fiji, Tonga is exposed to swells from all angles making it a pretty consistent destination. However, those swells have to travel a fair bit before reaching the archipelago and it usually takes a powerful storm to translate into nice waves down in Tonga.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Most of the surf on the main Island of Tongatapu is found on the north-west side of the island near Ha&#8217;atafu beach. All breaks are on the outer reef which is accessible just by paddling. There is also a small beach break on the inside that only gets surfable on larger swells for kids or beginners. </span><a id="when-to-go"></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>When t</strong></span><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>o go</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The best time to surf Tonga is pretty much any time of the year as it is exposed to two different swell season. The first one is the Hawaiian winter season from November to March. However, as mentioned above, swells travel way further to reach Tonga and usually a 10ft swell in Hawaii will result in a 3-5ft swell in Tonga.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The second season brings storms from Australia and New Zealand and runs from April to October. This season is also much drier.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong>Summary</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">While some may think most of the surfing exploration has been done and there are no more unexplored territories, the Andaman Islands are here to prove us wrong&#8230;</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">This little archipelago located in the Bay of Bengal receives its share of decent waves but is still not visited by many surfing tourists due to its short surfing season and difficult access to the islands as well as the surf spots.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Therefore, whoever makes the trip from March to May will be rewarded with some incredible uncrowded surf in a pure and raw paradise.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The best surf is located on Little Andaman, south of Andaman Islands and it is where you will find Kumari Point, the best wave in the area.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">There are a few surfing expedition companies running charter boats from Port Blair which is probably the best option to make the best of your surf trip in the Andaman Islands.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Most surf spots in Andaman Islands are reef breaks. However most of those waves are beginner-friendly with pretty forgiving reefs. <a id="when-to-go"></a></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong>Summary</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The Federated States of Micronesia earned its place on the global surf map in the early 2000s when professional surfers started gracing magazine covers, riding the now-famous barrels of P-Pass (Palikir Pass).</span></p>
<p data-start="495" data-end="681"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Ever since, Pohnpei’s reef breaks have attracted adventurous surfers seeking perfect, powerful waves with crowds a fraction of what you&#8217;d find in <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/which-hawaiian-island-is-best-for-a-surf-trip/" data-wpel-link="internal">Hawaii</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/tahiti-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">Tahiti</a></strong>, or the <strong><a href="https://www.mywavefinder.com/destination/maldives-surf-guide/" data-wpel-link="internal">Maldives</a></strong>.</span></p>
<p data-start="810" data-end="1052"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Located in the Western Pacific Ocean, Pohnpei is the main island of an archipelago of 607 islands. This remote paradise offers pristine surf, untouched reefs, and a surf experience that’s as much about the journey as the waves themselves.</span></p>
<p data-start="1054" data-end="1317"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">While P-Pass is the crown jewel, Pohnpei offers several other high-quality reef breaks like Main Pass, Middle Pass, Pehleng, and Nahpali, all accessible only by boat. The waves here consistently deliver hollow barrels, fast walls, and clean lines.</span></p>
<p data-start="1319" data-end="1496"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">There are no beach breaks in Micronesia, but on smaller swells and higher tides, even intermediate surfers can score fun sessions if they are comfortable surfing over reefs.</span><a id="when-to-go"></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong>When to go</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">The best time to surf P-Pass,  Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia is from November until March, during the north Pacific swell season. This also happens to be during the South Pacific typhoon season which runs from October to April.</span><a id="where-to-stay"></a></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">This wave is the main attraction on Pohnpei. On a good day, it is a world-class right-hand barrel that makes professionals rush to the Federated States of Micronesia attempting to tame the beast. It breaks on any W-NW-N-NE swell but is much better and peels nicely on a N swell. </span></p>

<h4><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong>Main Pass</strong></span></h4>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">This one is located in Pohnpei&#8217;s largest pass and is also a very solid and challenging right-hand break. Heavy and consistent, Main Pass should be attacked by experienced surfers only.</span></p>

It always is smaller than P-Pass and doesn&#8217;t work as often. However, when it does, Pehleng, is probably Pohnpei&#8217;s nicest wave.</span></p>

<h4><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;"><strong>Middle Pass</strong></span></h4>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;">A fun wave that doesn&#8217;t get as crazy as P-Pass or Main Pass would. However, it remains a pretty shallow spot and like any wave in Pohnpei, requires a boat to get to.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Summary</strong></span></p>
<p data-start="277" data-end="516"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Piha, located on the west coast of New Zealand&#8217;s North Island is still somewhat of a hidden gem in the surfing world. With direct exposure to consistent swells from the Tasman Sea, this region offers excellent surfing conditions all year round.</span></p>
<p data-start="518" data-end="780"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">While Raglan often steals the spotlight as New Zealand’s premier surf destination, Piha Beach stands out as a must-visit spot, especially for those looking for raw natural beauty, black sand beaches, and powerful waves just a stone’s throw from Auckland.</span></p>
<p data-start="518" data-end="780"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Located only 45 minutes west of Auckland, Piha is a beloved coastal escape for locals and visitors alike. This rugged beach town is famous for its iconic Lion Rock, wild surf, and dramatic scenery.</span></p>
<p data-start="1013" data-end="1322"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The surfing at Piha is world-class. The wide, open beach break produces lefts and rights, offering waves suitable for both beginners (on smaller days) and experienced surfers when the swell picks up. Piha can hold solid size, but surfers should always be mindful of the strong rips and shifting sandbanks.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong><a id="when-to-go"></a>When to go</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The best time to surf Piha is probably during autumn although there is very consistent swell all year long.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Waves are smaller during the summer months from December to March which is more suitable for beginners. Weather will also be warmer over this period of time.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Advanced surfers looking for bigger waves will want to aim for April to August, when the swell picks up in size for winter and winds remain not so strong.</span></p>
