Summary

Surfing in Southern California is simply part of everyone’s daily life. Ever since Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku visited Southern California to introduce the sport of surfing on the mainland, back in 1912, California quickly adopted the sport and developed a strongly implemented surf and beach culture.

It is also in California that the sport evolved the most when people started using different types of boards instead of strictly long boards like they would before. Many pro surfers are from California as well as a lot of surfing brands like Channel Islands Surfboards and Hurley.

Conditions vary from Northern California to Southern California whether we look at temperature, swell or crowd. The southern region is where most of that surfing culture is gonna be found as well as milder temperatures.

From San Luis Obispo all the way to the San Diego-Tijuana border, every surfer will find its wave in Southern California as long as crowds don’t scare you. This region is home to some of the world’s most famous surf spots such as Trestles, Huntington Beach, The Wedge, Malibu and Santa Barbara just to name a few.

Traveling in California is very easy and convenient with a lot of facilities and accommodation. You will be charmed by the Californian lifestyle and laid back atmosphere.
