Main Point is right by Arugam Bay while Peanut Farm, Elephant Rock and Whiskey Point are all a bit further out of town.

Mirissa

Mirissa is a small surf town just between Matara and Weligama with a great vibe and amazing surf spots. The bay of Mirissa offers a beautiful right-hand wave.

 

Weligama

Weligama is a charming surf town located on the south coast, just a few kilometers west of Mirissa. It’s known for its long sandy beach, gentle rolling waves, and a relaxed atmosphere. It tends to get pretty busy, having several big hotels and surf schools.

Ahangama and Midigama

Further west of Weligama and the two small towns called Ahangama and Midigama which are close to some of the best surf spots and reef breaks of south Sri Lanka. Rams and Lazy Left are two notable surf spots that are very popular and consistent.

 

 

Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa is another surf town in the Galle region which is good for learners with nice and mellow beach breaks. 

 

 

When to surf Sri Lanka

The best time to surf the east coast of Sri Lanka and Arugam Bay is from May to October. However, during the rest of the year, trade winds are favorable for the whole southern coast, including Ahangama, Mirissa and Weligama. Therefore, you can catch waves in Sri Lanka all year long!
